Let This Cup Pass From Me
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” – Matthew 26:39, NKJV
Jesus prayed repeatedly at Gethsemane, a garden near Jerusalem, expressing his distress and seeking God’s will amidst the impending suffering of his crucifixion. He specifically prayed for a way to avoid his suffering if possible, but ultimately submitted to God’s will. Jesus’s prayer in Gethsemane highlights his human experience of fear and anguish, yet also his unwavering devotion to God’s plan.
