Muslim Population

The Muslim community primarily comprises individuals of Syrian and Lebanese descent, along with some West African immigrants.

Islamic Organizations and Places of Worship

In the capital city, St. John’s, there are two notable Islamic organizations:

  • Antigua and Barbuda International Islamic Society
  • Muslim Students Association at the American University of Antigua (School of Medicine)
  • Additionally, an Ahmadiyya mission operates within the country

While there is no official mosque, efforts have been made to establish a dedicated Islamic center. In 2007, the Antigua and Barbuda Islamic Society submitted a development plan for constructing a community center. However, the plan faced delays, with the society’s president alleging discrimination due to the lack of approval.

The Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda guarantees freedom of thought and religion, allowing individuals to practice and change their religion or belief. The government generally respects these rights in practice .

Community Life
