Right to Buy Property
Women in the United States gained the right to buy property on their own name with the passage of the Married Women’s Property Acts. The first such act was passed in Mississippi in 1839. These acts gradually spread across various states, and by the late 19th and early 20th centuries, most states had enacted laws that allowed married women to own and control property independently. The passage of these acts was a significant step towards recognizing women’s property rights in the USA.
